adnate (adjective) – (1) closely attached; sitting on a very short, constricted base or extremely short, broadened stalk; sessile with a constricted base, like a button; usually used for apothecia or apothecioid (disk-shaped) ascocarps that are sessile with a distinctly constricted base and thus are only centrally attached by a broadened attachment point, looking like a button; more broadly also used to any structure that is closely attached, basally constricted and has no distinct, or only an extremely short stalk, e. g., isidia of Parmelina pastillifera (Harm.)
