Amyloid

amyloid (adjective) – in general: staining with iodine solutions; i. e., changing colour from yellow to reddish, blue or purple; a general diagnostic test for the presence of starch-like polysaccharides (fungal starch: amylomycan, lichenan); used either to detect the presence or absence of storage polysaccharides in the thallus or as an important diagnostic characteristic to visualize structural differences in the tholus of immature asci; in a more strict sense amyloid refers only to blue (or more or less purple) colour reactions.
