Biguttulate - LIAS Glossary

biguttulate (adjective) – containing two oil droplets (guttules) inside a cell; usually referring to the cell lumina of a non-septate spore. A biguttulate spore may appear one-septate, especially if the oil droplets are approximately equal in size and located at either end of the spore (distichous). Using a clearing agent like 5-10 % KOH dissolves the oil droplets and reveals if indeed a septum is present. Related terms: guttulate.
