continentality (noun, no plural; opposite: oceanity; no plural) – (1) the climatic influence caused by the temperature retention and aridity of large landmasses (continents). Towards the centre of continents the climate typically becomes more arid and is also characterized by more extreme temperature fluctuations; winters are cold and summers are hot. (2) the degree to which a species is distributed along a gradient from the interior of a continent towards the coast.
