This is a test version of the LIAS Glossary. Many definitions presented here are still in need of revision! Criticism as well as collaboration is welcome!
crack (noun, pl. cracks) – a distinct and deep, coarse and wide fracture of the thallus that otherwise has an intact cortex. Unlike fissures, cracks are not restricted to thesurface but penetrate deeply and therefore typically separate the thallus into distinct, irregular parts that may sometimes even be lined by a cortex (especially in areolate thalli). This is: part of thallus surface.
