envelope (noun, pl. envelopes; ascocarp term) – general term for all wall layers surrounding the primordium, centrum and the mature ascocarp; more or less equivalent with the general term exciple, but more frequently used to describe the ontogeny of an ascocarp. Compare outer layer. This is: part of ascocarp.
