fibrous (adjective; variant spelling: fibrose) – composed of fibers, loosely woven distinct hyphae which run more or less parallel to the long axis of the lobe or branch, as in the cortex of Anaptychia, best seen under a microscope; cf. fastigiate cortex; sometimes also applied to an ecorticate surface with randomly oriented hyphae (see arachnoid).
