This is a test version of the LIAS Glossary. Many definitions presented here are still in need of revision! Criticism as well as collaboration is welcome!
grey (adjective, colour term; American spelling: gray) – emitting or reflecting a mixture of all wavelengths of little saturated light with low intensity. Like white, grey is not strictly a colour because it does not correspond to a single hue, but a mixture of all hues. In the RGB colour model, white is achieved by mixing strong light of all three additive primary colours, Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B). All shades of grey are essentially nuances of white, using a mixture of light with low intensity and little saturation. However, grey can also be achieved when fading the saturation of a single hue until the characteristics of that particular hue can no longer be observed. Related terms: chroma.
