South African Floristic Kingdom

South African floristic kingdom (noun, no plural; biogeography term; synonym: floristic kingdom of the cape, cape province) – a small geographic area that is characterized by plants (or plant like organisms) adapted to Mediterranean climate of the Cape Province in South Africa. The Cape Region is unique because it is a small, rather isolated floristic kingdom. Though it is characterized by plants that are adapted to Mediterranean climate, it does not correspond to the meridional zone in general. Also, it does not does not correspond to any zoogeographic kingdom. Instead, the South African Floristic Kingdom is largely defined by its isolated position at the southernmost tip of the African continent. Kind of: floristic kingdom.
