Thalline Margin

thalline margin (noun, pl. thalline margins; ascocarp term) – a morphological term referring to a rim formed by the thallus around a lecanorine apothecium; similar in colour, texture and appearance to the surrounding thallus and not the disk; present only in some, but not all, lichenized ascomycetes; corresponds internally to the thalline exciple or amphithecium. This is: part of ascocarp.
