Timberline - LIAS Glossary

timberline (noun, biogeography term, pl. timberlines) – the floristic tension zone between the subalpine and the alpine belt; origin of the name: no timber (upright, standing trees) can be harvested above the timberline; at the timberline trees become stunned, their growth becomes contorted fighting with the harsh climatic conditions.
