This is a test version of the LIAS Glossary. Many definitions presented here are still in need of revision! Criticism as well as collaboration is welcome!
violet (adjective, colour term) – the hue of the visible light spectrum located at the low end of the visible light spectrum. The human eye typically perceives monochromatic light with a wavelength somewhere below 445nm as violet. However, a mixture of wavelengths of light can result in the same subjective colour perception. In the CMYK colour model violet-red, a mixture of two wavelength at the opposite ends of the visible spectrum, is called magenta. Used as ink, magenta (M) is one of the three subtractive primary colours. Colour terms related to violet colours are: violet-blue, violet-red, magenta, purple, indigo.
